When Children Kill Each Other

I need you to get something.

If you are disturbed at the violence of today’s youth, you need to get closer to them.

Visit a classroom. Not just one. Not just high school. They need to see you. They need to know it’s not just me who sees them and cares for their well-being. The farther away you stand, the more they feel disconnected from you. And from themselves. They need to see someone who looks like them doing something normal. Something positive. Something other than what they see day in and day out. It’s you. You can’t wait. I have a classroom ready for you, and I have other colleagues who can grant you the same access. Stop worrying about the system, and get to the children. Stop looking for official answers and government action. We don’t need you to come by every month. We just need you to come by once. For an hour. You don’t have to do anything special. Just let them talk to you.

They can only see their light when you reflect it to them. Start today.

Be the answer for them.

If you need to know where to start, tweet us at @beyourownanswer on Twitter with a location and we’ll @ you back with a local resource. If that’s not going to work for you, hit us on Facebook. If there is enough of a demand, we’ll create a webinar to tell you how to connect with the youth in front of you.

Please. You can’t wait. They need you, and they just don’t know how to ask.
